Fast and Furious Crossroads New Release Date and Gameplay Trailer

Fast & Furious Crossroads is a team-based vehicular heist game announced by Bandai Namco at last year’s Game Awards. The game was originally meant to come out in May alongside “Fast & Furious 9” until the movie was pushed back to next year. The new release date, August 7th, was revealed in a new gameplay trailer featuring footage from heist missions and voice acting from franchise stars like Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez.

Fast & Furious Crossroads is based in the same universe as the “Fast & Furious” movies and features a lot of the same actors as well. Single-player is said to have an “authentic” story mode packed with fast vehicular action the series is known for. Unfortunately, while watching the trailer, the gameplay felt reminiscent of an arcade driving game booth, or a PlayStation 2 title. Similar feelings were expressed by fans in the comments on the PlayStation YouTube channel. The video was also subject to a resounding 6.1k to 12k like/dislike ratio.

Apart from the dated atmosphere, the gameplay does look smooth, high paced, and polished enough. Players can transition between drivers on the fly during heists as they audibly communicate with each other through a headset. Staple catchphrases from the movie are heard in the trailer, including Dom’s “Let’s ride” voiced by Vin Diesel himself. There were some really neat action moments as well, such as a scene where the player drives through a wall then narrowly escapes a rock slide caused by a rocket they dodged. It appears fans will have to wait a little longer for more information on multiplayer and the single-player narrative.

Fast & Furious Crossroads launches on August 7th for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Pre-orders are available on the Bandai Namco website, and numerous online marketplaces. There’s no word yet on any preorder bonuses.
