Far Cry 5’s Hours of Darkness DLC Gets a Release Date and Trailer

The first of Far Cry 5‘s three planned expansions now has a release date and accompanying trailer. Ubisoft made the announcement earlier today along with a post-launch schedule for all of its future Far Cry 5 content. Hours of Darkness takes players from Hope County all the way to Vietnam, where Hope County native Wendell “Red” Redler is trying to stay alive long enough to complete his mission.

Throughout the DLC, players (as Redler) will attempt to “rescue his imprisoned squadmates and survive long enough to reach the extraction point.” In addition, more than just the setting has changed. “Hours of Darkness will introduce new weapons, like the Vietnam-era M16, SVD sniper rifle, and M60 machine gun, all of which can be taken back to Far Cry 5’s main campaign as well,” Ubisoft wrote in its announcement. The expansion’s gameplay will also let players call in bombing airstrikes and add a new ‘Survival Instinct’ feature, which “grants up to four temporary perks for players racking up stealth kills.”

Finishing Hours of Darkness will unlock a couple of new modes: Survivor mode, and Action Movie mode. The first, Survivor mode, “strips down your weaponry and ramps up the challenge to provide a more authentic experience.” Action Movie mode, meanwhile, “gives you additional weapon slots and enhances the airstrike ability.”

The update will bring a few Vietnam-themed assets for all Far Cry 5 players, and even those who don’t own the DLC will get some love. Players can gain free access to the items through the Far Cry Arcade.

As for the rest of Far Cry 5‘s add-on content, Ubisoft gave players a release window for its two remaining expansions and for other planned Arcade asset drops. While hard dates haven’t been announced yet, the game’s next expansion (Lost on Mars) will be coming this July, and it will be quickly followed by Dead Living Zombies in August. Take a look at the full timeline below:

Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness launches on June 5 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The DLC is included in Far Cry 5‘s Season Pass, or you’ll be able to pick it up as a standalone expansion for $11.99.
