Fallout 4 has been having a very successful couple of weeks. With the release of well-received TV series – one that is already renewed for second season – the games have received a dramatic increase in players across the franchise. However, the team behind Fallout: London won’t be celebrating the release of their “DLC-sized” mod like they planned to. The mod that planned to place players in post-nuke London was originally scheduled for yesterday, April 23. It has now been delayed indefinitely due to the next-gen update the game will be receiving tomorrow, April 25th.
The update has made the new mod incompatible with the game, due to Fallout 4’s script extender being broken in the update. For anyone who doesn’t know, script extenders allow for modding by allowing things to be added to the existing script. The Fallout: London team was using the script extender in all of their prep work, and were looking forward to their launch day, according to team head Dean Carter in an interview with PC Gamer. However, with the surprise update, they’ll have to wait, reassess the damage, and then put their mod back together in the new framework. All’s to say that they have a lot of work on their hands and they won’t even know the extent of their work until the update is rolled out.
While Carter is confident this wasn’t foul play, it’s hard to not feel the disappointment as everything seems to go up in smoke for him and his team. Hopefully for Carter and company, the Fallout renaissance can last until Fallout: London is completed after the update. Either way, Fallout 4 players will be receiving a next gen update tomorrow that should give players something to look forward to as they return to the game after the series or play it for the first time.
