Facebook Acquires Beat Games the Studio Behind Hit VR Game Beat Saber

Another big name company has entered the game studio purchasing battlefield. Yesterday, it was announced that Facebook has officially acquired Beat Games the studio behind the hit VR rhythm game Beat Saber. Now, as Facebook owns Oculus, Beat Games is now an official part of Oculus Studios.

The news came via a post on the official Oculus blog from the Director of Content Mike Verdu. Verdu would point out that, while Facebook now owns Beat Games, the studio will remain completely independently operated. Verdu would also assure fans that Beat Games will still support and ship content to all platforms that Beat Saber is currently on, and updates will still come to all platforms at the same time. Thus, the game is not becoming an Oculus exclusive. Verdu would also state the the new feature called 360° Levels mode will be coming to the game at some point next month as well as stating that more new music will be available by the end of the year.

They have only scratched the surface with Beat Saber in terms of social features, new modes, music, and more. We are thrilled to join forces to see where this talented team takes VR gaming in the future.

Since the game’s Early Access release last year, Beat Saber has been met with critical and commercial success. The game had sold over one million copies by February of this year. The game has also been nominated for and won several awards already, and is even in contention for Best VR Game at this year’s The Game Awards. Now, with the backing of Oculus and Facebook, it will be interesting to see what’s next for the hit VR rhythm game.
