Oh boy, we are little over a month away from the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon and the trailers are releasing closer and closer together. It felt like just a week ago that the internet was in tizzy over Brionne, Popplio’s second evolution. That’s probably because it was just last week.
Whatever, I’m not complaining. Onward to the Pokémon website.
The focus of this trailer was to show off the evolutions of previously announced creatures as well as a look at a Big Kahuna and a Trial Captain. As well as a new Alolan variant.
First off we get a look at the mysterious Type: Null’s evolution called Silvally. Much like Type: Null, Silvally is a solid Normal-type, but its new ability RKS System allows Silvally to change its type depending on which item it’s holding. The ability also changes the type of Multi-Attack, a move that only Silvally can learn. You might remember that Type: Null wore a heavy helmet that limited its power and that the helmet is nowhere to be found on its evolution. This is because when Type: Null trusts its trainer it will destroy the helmet. This causes Type: Null to revert to its wild state giving it heightened senses and a new name.
Jangmo-o’s evolutions, Hakamo-o and Kommo-o, are the first ever Dragon/Fighting-types. When Jangmo-o evolves it leaves its group to train on its own. Only after its rigorous training is complete will Hakamo-o evolve it to Kommo-o. All of this training was for a purpose beyond gaining strength. It is said that Kommo-o is destined to fight an ambiguous darkness. Kommo-o is the only Pokémon that can learn Clanging Scales. The move hits hard but lowers Kommo-o’s defense.
The adorable berry-like Pokémon Bounsweet will have two evolutions as well. With it’s evolutions Bounsweet no longer has to worry about being chased by other Pokémon. Which is good, considering the sweet smell is stronger with its first evolution, Steenee. Bounsweet’s final evolution, named Tsareena, has the new ability Queenly Majesty which prevents other Pokémon from using priority moves and a new attack called Trop Kick.
Last up is Ribombee, Cutiefly’s evolution. It is a Bug/Fairy-type and it’s claim to fame are the Pollen Puffs it makes which are collected and sold as a high-priced supplement in Alola.
The trailer treated us to the Alolan variants for Grimer and Muk. In Alola, the pair are a Poison/Dark-type as opposed to a straight Poison-type everywhere else. This is due to them feeding mostly on trash, which is why they were brought into the region.
At the end of the trailer we were introduced to Olivia, the Kahuna of Akala Island who specializes in Rock-types and Ilima, a Trial Captain with an affinity for Normal-Types.
Pokémon Sun and Moon will be out on November 18th for all Nintendo handhelds. If you are itching to try out the game, Nintendo is releasing a demo on October 18th.
