It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Marvel characters! The 3 final characters for Arc System Works’ Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls were revealed this past weekend at EVO, Ghost Rider’s Samurai Outriders team of Blade, Loki, and Deadpool are now on the scene.
While Ghost Rider’s team seems like it has no cohesion or theme whatsoever, they’ve all actually been a part of Marvel’s Midnight Suns team sans Loki, who is still magic and fits. Loki in general seems to be a very tricky character, summoning clones for parries, magic orbs for potential mixups, and employing magical artifacts he stole in his moveset such as Surtur’s sword.
If you’re familiar with how Arc System Works approaches characters, you probably expected Blade. It is very evident that Tokon’s Blade took a ton from Guilty Gear: Strive’s resident vampire, Nagoriyuki. With a similar katana based moveset as well as a lot of blood moon imagery, many would probably expect the two to be very similar, but outside of some surface level graphical effects it seems that Blade is several times faster than Nago ever was, and makes up for his lack of reach with, well, a gun.
And speaking of guns, who could forget Deadpool? Voiced by the iconic Nolan North, Deadpool’s moveset isn’t too reminiscent of his appearance in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but does feature several references to said game, including Dr. Doom’s iconic Foot Dive (which sadly Doom does not have as far as we can tell) and some Mortal Kombat references with “Toasty!”, Johnny Cage’s nut punch, and Guilty Gear’s Jack-O’s meme crouching animation and May’s dolphin attack to compliment his whirlwind of katanas and bullets.
And with that, Marvel Tokon’s base roster is finished. All teams have their representatives filled up, and now we must simply wait for the full release on August 6th, 2026. Or must we? Marvel Tokon also announced that they will have an open beta on PC and PlayStation 5 from July 24th through July 25th, so be sure to mark your calendars!
