The announcement of E3’s return this past June has left the video game community wondering, curious as to what its return would even entail. On July 7, 2022, the ESA (Entertainment Software Association) finally released more details on what people can expect in a press release. On the second week of June 2023, E3 will have its long-awaited return to the Los Angeles Convention Center. The ESA will partner with ReedPop, a Connecticut-based event production company behind notable events such as PAX, New York Comic Con, and Star Wars Celebration.
“It is a tremendous honor and privilege for ReedPop to take on the responsibility of bringing E3 back in 2023,” said Lance Fensterman, President of ReedPop. “With the support and endorsement of the ESA, we’re going to build a world-class event to serve the global gaming industry in new and broader ways than we already do at ReedPop through our portfolio of world-leading events and websites.”
E3 2023 will come back as an in-person event and digital showcase, with registration beginning in late 2022. The ESA has made efforts for “a more streamlined and secure media registration,” likely due to the event’s previous controversy over registration privacy leaks. According to Stanley Pierre-Louis, President and CEO of the ESA, the ESAs partnership with Reedpop will “enhance the E3 experience for years to come”. Kyle Marsden-Kish, ReedPop Global Vice President (VP) of Gaming added that E3’s return will be a “return to form that honors what’s always worked—while reshaping what didn’t and setting a new benchmark for video game expos in 2023 and beyond”.
While E3 has been one of video games’ biggest events, the effects of covid-19 and the rise of digital events have left a sizable impact. Even so, ESA’s partnership with ReedPop is sure to bring back interest that the gaming convention desperately needs to survive. Until more information releases, fans are encouraged to follow E3 on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for frequent updates.
