Epic Reveals Unreal Engine 4’s Ingenious New Layering Feature And Tricycles

Throughout the years, Epic’s Unreal Engines have provided the building blocks for some of the greatest games of our generation. From Dues Ex to Gears of War and Bioshock Infinite, the Unreal Engines have proven an invaluable asset to developers and an integral part of the industry. The studio’s latest offering, the Unreal Engine 4, wowed E3 audiences with the Infiltrator tech demo, but that was nothing compared to the raw unbridled excitement of two slightly different looking tricycles, side by side in a garden of plastic grass.

According to Epic Games, the key to the next generation of game development, as well as most onions, will lie in layers. The engine is designed so that adjustments to the game world can be made in real time while the, “materials in UE4 are kind to game performance, look fantastic, and give artists total control over aesthetics.” Check out the video below for more details and to hear two guys say the word “layered” a lot.

In short, tricycle based action games are going to be so much better from now on. Fortnite will be the first game to use the UE4 and will be released later this year.
