Epic Games Store’s First Mega Sale Has Some Hiccups

Today, the Epic Games Store had its first mega sale. The sale took off $10 out of every game that was $14.99 or higher; However, two high profile games were pulled out of the sale by their publishers.

Because of the sale, games such as Oxenfree, Transistor, Subnautica, The Witness, Slime Rancher, Super Meat Boy, and What Remains of Edith Finch are selling for half to a quarter of their original prices. This also includes upcoming games such as Borderlands 3 and John Wick Hex.

But for some reason, it seems that not every game that is part of the Epic Games Store wants to be on sale. One of the games is Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. An Epic representative said, “if a developer or publisher chooses to not participate in our sales, we will honor that decision, Paradox Interactive has chosen to not participate in the Epic Mega Sale and the game has been temporarily removed from sale”. The representative made it clear that those who have purchased the game during this time will pay the discounted price. “If you’ve purchased Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 during the period when the discount did apply at the time of check out, Epic will honor that price.”

While Paradox Interactive didn’t discuss why they didn’t partake in the sale, they did say “we are in discussion with Epic regarding the temporary removal of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 from the Epic Game Store, the game will return to the store soon! Any purchases made while the game was discounted during the Epic Mega Sale will be honored and no Masquerade violations will be assessed”.

The other game that was pulled was Oxygen Not Included, a space station survival sim. Klei Entertainment, the developer and publisher have not commented on the situation yet. Another situation that happened during the Mega Sale had to do with Hades and its price. First, the game was mispriced. Developer Supergiant Games tweeted out:

Second, Supergiant took to Discord to announce new price for the game. “After the sale is over, on June 14, we will be raising the game’s retail price to $24.99, We had intended to raise the retail price of the game soon, but made the decision rashly as part of the sale—we didn’t provide advance notice to our customers, despite previously stating we would do so. That was our mistake, and we sincerely apologize. To all our players, thank you for your patience and understanding around this.”
