Epic Games Store Changes Refund Policy

The Epic Games Store has recently changed its refund policy to be more in-line with the competition, namely Steam. Sergey Galyonkin, Epic Game’s Director of Publishing Strategy, recently announced the changes via Twitter. According to the Tweet, the new refund policy will allow “unlimited refunds within 14 days of purchase and under 2 hours played.”

The new policy is almost identical to that of Steam’s, and will allow unhappy customers to get their money back on games that don’t run like they’re supposed to, or games that are just plain bad. You can check out the full Epic Games Store refund policy here. In addition to a strengthened refund policy, Galyonkin also stated that the Epic Games Store now features 30 different regional currencies, representing 130 countries, with more on the way (though it will take some time). Countries with currencies not represented as of yet will use USD until the switch can be accommodated.

The policy changes comes suspiciously close to Epic Games’ scathing Better Business Bureau “F” rating recently. One of the main reasons for the poor rating were numerous customer complaints (over 250 of them) regarding the refund policy of the company. Another possible reason for the change is their direct competition with Steam. While Steam offers developers 70/30 split of revenue, Epic, upon launch, announced an unprecedented 88/12 split for developers.

The increased revenue for developers could be enough to sway the makers of the game to partner up with Epic, and the players were elated to find out that the Epic Store would be giving away free games, further increasing their popularity with both sects. All in all, Epic Games seems poised to make the changes necessary to become a major player in the digital storefront age.
