Celeste had an overwhelmingly positive response during 2018, so much so that it landed a spot on mxdwn’s Top 10 Games of 2018 list at number 5, and for good reason too. The game originally was a 4-day build for a game jam and eventually turned into the game that sold 500,000 copies in its debut year. It tickled many people’s fancy, enough to warrant a DLC from the developers Matt Makes Games Inc. Matt Thorson, one of the developers, had sent out this tweet back in mid-December 2018:
As far as knowing what these farewell levels will bring, there isn’t much. Only that Thorson just keeps saying that the DLC levels will be very, very difficult. Given that the original game was difficult as it is, this could only mean that fans and players could expect something on a whole new level. The levels were set to come out in early 2019, and Thorson had hoped to release these new levels on the game’s 1-year anniversary on January 25, 2019.
However, it would seem that won’t be the case .
Thorson’s new tweet on the update for the DLC levels revealed a lot with what to expect, the first being that the levels themselves won’t be out in time for the 1-year anniversary. Sad, but knowing what’s being worked on, it wasn’t all bad news. It’s also revealed that the new DLC continuous chapter will be harder than the hardest difficulty in the game.
But there are some respite in these ultra hard levels, as players won’t have to seek out the difficult-to-find strawberry collectibles to change the game’s outcome. However, the DLC itself will come with new mechanics and items.
