Rocket League Gets Full Cross-Platform Play Across All Consoles and PC

The massively popular rocket car soccer game Rocket League is now officially the second game to receive full cross-platform play on all consoles and PC. Earlier today, Psyonix’s Jeremy Dunham announced the news via the official Rocket League website. Rocket League now joins the worldwide phenomenon Fortnite to enter the PlayStation Cross-Play Beta program to achieve full cross-platform play. Prior to this, Sony had limited Rocket League to cross-platform play to just between PlayStation 4 and PC. Dunham would also thank fans of the game for their continued desire to see full cross-platform play that made this possible.

It’s because of YOU, our fans, and our generous partners on all systems and services that have made this possible in the first place. On behalf of the entire team, THANK YOU for your passion and persistence as we continue to do our best to make Rocket League the best experience we can.

The full cross-platfom play feature is now live in the game, and allows for random matchmaking between devices in the game’s online modes including “Casual, Competitive, and Extra Modes.” The cross-platform play feature will be enable by default within the game, and players will be able to turn the feature on or off via the game’s option menu under the “Gameplay” tab if they so choose.

Dunham would also state that Psyonix is working on implementing cross-platform parties into the game as well. This cross-platform parties feature is set to be released in the game’s first update of the year though no date was given for the release of the update. Instead, Dunham teased that more information would be coming soon. While players will have to wait for the update for full cross-platform party implementation, there is currently a workaround to play Rocket League with friends on different platforms. Players can create or join private matches with others on different platforms to get around the need for cross-platform parties at the moment.

You can check out Rocket League on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC.
