Epic Games Acquires Kamu, A Game Security And Player Services Company

Today, Epic Games, developer of Fortnite and the Unreal Engine has announced that they have acquired Kamu, a Helsinki-based company that supports the live management of player satisfaction, community building, and game integrity.

The CEO of Kamu, Simon Allaeys had this to say about the acquirement

Joining the Epic family is not only a childhood dream come true but a huge boost for our mission to help developers create beautiful gaming experiences. Battling cheating in games was just the start; today our products also help developers stay competitive by identifying player needs as quickly as they emerge. Building and launching games today is incredibly challenging, and only half the battle. Kamu’s tools for managing live games help developers grow and sustain their games successfully after launch. At Epic, we succeed when developers succeed!”

Kamu offers a suite of services that focuses on game security, game telemetry, and game management. Their Easy Anti-Cheat service is installed by over 100 million PC players globally protecting more than 80 games. Some of those games include Dragonball FighterZ, Hunt: Showdown, Paladins, Realm Royale, Rust, Smite, Warhammer: Vermintide 2, Absolver, and Fortnite.

Tim Sweeny said that the company has been key in making Fortnite one of the biggest games right now.

Kamu’s team and tools have been key to building a vibrant Fortnite multiplayer experience that’s fair for all players.

Even though that Kamu is now a part of Epic Games, it doesn’t mean that they will stop providing its services to the games they provide services to. The team will continue to expand its services supporting all of the customers and the engines that they’ve chosen. Epic Games’ new presence in Helsinki will serve as a base for recruiting technology, engine, and online service developers in Finland.

Since Fortnite is a multiplayer-focused game, this move seems appropriate for Epic. Hopefully, more games can get this type of focus on their games if they don’t already. Making the game fun and balanced for everyone is a strategy that is good for everyone, just look at Fortnite and the success it continues to have.
