It looks like From Software’s Elden Ring has some more accolades to add to their already impressive resume. Bandai Namco released their first half financial earnings, which revealed that Elden Ring has now sold more than 17.5 million copies worldwide. This makes it one of the most successful titles of 2022, an achievement which has been echoed by the fact that they were just nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022. These new numbers also come only few months after the last sales statistics, 16.6 million, were unveiled in August, making this a very significant jump in a short time for the title and for the company.
As expected, these numbers account for both physical and digital sales across all the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms that it released for. It’s also important to note that Bandai Namco states that this new statistic was reported as late as September 30, 2022. That means that those sales numbers have likely gone up even more since then as we’re already halfway through November. If anything this could potentially mean that Elden Ring will be one of the highest-selling titles of 2022, while the highest-selling title will no doubt go to the recently launched Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II which made an insane amount of more than $800 million in less than three days.
Despite this, Elden Ring holds a very dubious distinction, especially in terms of Japanese titles. It’s 17.5 million copies sold has outdone some seriously heavy-hitting franchises, yes not just titles, entire franchises. To put this in context, Final Fantasy XV sold 10 million copies since releasing in 2016, Final Fantasy VII Remake sold 5 million copies since releasing in 2020. However, the real kicker of this is the Deus Ex franchise, which has sold 12 million copies in its entire lifetime. Elden Ring’s 17.5 million units usurps them all, and as we already mentioned already, those sales numbers will have likely gone up exponentially by now.
