E3 2021: Mario Party Superstars to Feature Classic Maps and Online Play

Fans of Nintendo had a very good day at their conference at E3 on June 15th. Big names like Metroid Dread, Breath of the Wild 2, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate all made an appearance. One of Nintendo’s most iconic characters, Mario, and the games he plays with his similarly iconic friends were not ignored, either (beyond Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope). In the Direct, Nintendo announced Mario Party Superstars, a Mario Party game that includes new and classic features alike. They also played a few rounds in their Treehouse Live, giving the audience a sample of what is to come.

The game boasts remastered versions of 5 classic boards from the Nintendo 64, including Peach’s Birthday Cake and Space Land. Along with the main game, it will have 100 minigames. There are a few new features in Mario Party Superstars that will make it more compatible with the Nintendo Switch. Each game and minigame will have button controls, so motion control will not be needed and the games can be won with the Joy-Con controllers. These games will also be open for same-system play, local wireless, and online multiplayer (with a Nintendo Switch Online membership and Nintendo Account, of course), both with up to 4 friends and with random players, so the party technically never has to stop.

Mario Party Superstars is available for preorder now, and will be released on October 29, 2021, and will retail for $59.99 on the Nintendo Switch. For fans who want even more vaguely Mario-related content, WarioWare: Get it Together! is another minigame-heavy Nintendo Switch game that is available for preorder now, and will be available September 10th. Nintendo fans have plenty to look forward to in their gaming future.
