Today Techland, developers of Dying Light and the Dead Island and Call of Juarez games have announced that their upcoming game Dying Light 2, originally set to release in Spring 2020, has been delayed with no new release window. The developers took to Twitter to announce the news.
The message from Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka reads “It was a busy year for us as we continued working on our biggest project to date. We know you are awaiting the game eagerly, and we want to deliver exactly what we promised. We were initially aiming for a Spring 2020 release with Dying Light 2, but unfortunately, we need more development time to fulfill our vision. We will have more details to share in the coming months and will get back to you as soon as we have more information. We apologize for this unwelcome news. Our priority is to deliver an experience that lives up to our own high standards and the expectations of you, our fans.” If anyone is thinking that the game was delayed to coincide with the next-gen consoles, Dying Light 2 was already announced to be for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
Techland’s vision for the game is the idea of choice and consequence. In a behind closed doors demo at E3 2019, which is now available to watch online, that was the main focus that Techland discussed throughout the presentation. The choices that players make not only influence the story but which one of 7 different regions will become available. Each region will introduce new enemies, gameplay mechanics, side quests, and more.
As you may be aware, Dying Light 2 is not the most recent game to be delayed this year. Most recently, Iron Man VR got delayed but last week also saw the announcement of the delays for Cyberpunk 2077 from April to September, Final Fantasy VII Remake from March to April and Marvel’s Avengers from May to September. Last year also saw the announcement of the delay of another highly anticipated game, The Last of Us Part II from February to May. If these past two weeks are any indication, the delay trend may continue.
