‘DONTNOD Presents Vampyr’ Finale Episode Reveals a Release Date

The final episode of DONTNOD Presents Vampyr has just released, bringing with it a solid release date for the game: June 5, 2018. Vampyr was delayed last September, as it was originally slated for release in November 2017. The rest of the new episode, titled “Stories from the Dark,” explores storytelling in games—both as a whole and in the world of Vampyr.

“I want players to feel close with citizens, and feel totally immersed in the atmosphere of 1918 London,” game director Philippe Moreau said in the short video.  Moreau spoke of the way storytelling in games can differ from other media, and the opportunities within that. “I think there is a sense of staging, one that doesn’t use the film-making codes, a sense of direction unique to games,” Moreau added. “What does it mean to stage a scene where the audience is the main character?”

Episode 1 of the series focused in on Vampyr‘s protagonist, Jonathan Reid; the second explored environment and sound design; Episode 3 examined the game’s systems of morality and progress, and how Jonathan’s actions affect the story’s direction. You can watch the full Episode 4 below:

Vampyr launches on June 5, 2018, for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
