Development Stops on Multiplayer Game Bleeding Edge

Sadly, for fans of Bleeding Edge, the developers, Ninja Theory, have recently announced that they have stopped development for the game. To be clear, the game is still playable but there will not be any more updates or work put into it from now on. For those that are unfamiliar with the title, Bleeding Edge is a multiplayer melee battle game available on PC and Xbox One. It has only been released for less than a year, but Ninja Theory ultimately decided that there were not enough players to justify the time and effort to keep developing the game.

Bleeding Edge was first announced at E3 2019 before it was later officially released in late March of 2020. It consists of teams of up to four players with choice of thirteen different characters. These characters are one of three classes: damage, support, or tank. Sadly, the feedback was mostly mediocre with Metacritic giving the title a 62 out of 100 for the PC version and 66 out of 100 for the Xbox One version.

Ninja Theory decided that effort was better spent elsewhere on their other titles currently in development. In their aforementioned tweet, they mentioned three titles: Senua’s Saga, Project: MARA, and The Insight Project. The developers have history of focusing on topics of mental health and illnesses, and these upcoming titles are no exception. In 2018, they donated a portion of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice sales to Mental Health America.  Senua’s Saga is the much-awaited sequel to the 2017 title, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, and was announced at The Game Awards 2019 -there is still currently no release window announced. Project: MARA focuses on mental terror in this immersive storytelling game. Finally, The Insight Project is a very ambitious game that hopes to allow players to be able to treat “their own fear, anxiety, and other negative subjective experience.”

Bleeding Edge is available on PC and Xbox One for $29.99 USD.
