Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Can Be Finished Non-Violently

Eidos Montreal’s recently announced Deus Ex: Mankind Divided  is looking to build on the strengths of its predecessor, Human Revolution, while squashing its faults, and one of the ways the developer is going about that is by returning to the series’s famously non-violent option.

2011’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution was critically lauded, but at the same time many bemoaned the game’s boss fights, which essentially forced players to engage with its key antagonists in arena-style battles that did not play to the game’s strengths. A later revision, the Director’s Cut, modified the boss fight arenas to allow for alternative tactics to take down bosses.

The original Deus Ex was famous for allowing players to complete the entire campaign without firing a single shot or using any weapons.

Addressing fans on Twitter, Eidos Montreal’s game director Jean-François Dugas said that it will be possible for Mankind Divided to be completed nonviolently, stressing that this will include boss fights.

Other factoids dropped include include the return of social battles from HR, in which Jensen has to outwit opponents using his augmented silver tongue, the return of the “Give Me Deus Ex” difficulty option, the return of HR’s hybrid first and third person perspective, and that augmentations acquired in HR would not carry over to MD. When asked if the game was going to be out “quite soon” because the box art had already been finalized, Dugas replied with “You know I won’t answer that.”

We know very little about Mankind Divided at the present, but it looks like Eidos Montreal are building off the formula laid down by Human Revolution, rather than constructing something new entirely.
