If you’re a curious historian, enjoy a good mystery, appreciate pixel art games, or any combination of the three, then check out the new project by Nupixo Games. Detective Di: The Silk Rose Murders is a point-and-click style mystery narrative. Allow yourself to be transported back in time, to Imperial China, assisting the incredibly gifted Detective Di in his search for a murderer. The detective, who was faithful to the previous emperor, is now under the rule of his wife, Wu Zetian. After having risen to power, there would seem to be hushed whispers of a revolution stirring against the Empress. People are discovered dead, and it is believed that a serial killer is on the lose. Play through puzzles, search for clues, and uncover the secrets hiding in the Capitol. Who can you trust?
For those curious about the historical accuracy or inspiration behind the game, there truly was a Detective Di. He is known in history as Lord Di Renjie, and was said to be one of the most celebrated officials of Wu Zetian’s reign. He served two terms under her rule, following the death of her husband. On a tomb marker near his resting place is engraved an inscription: “The Tomb of Lord Di Renjie, Famous Chancellor of the Great Tang Dynasty.” His life has become an inspiration to many works of film and television. While we do not know just how much of his life, if any, will be reflected in the game, it is sure to be an engaging and entertaining tale.
Nupixo has spent time ensuring for an exciting and engaging world for their players. The game is said to offer an “immersive story driven experience dripping with historical atmosphere.” There will be more than 45 unique locations to explore and investigate. Players will be able to interact with objects, choose dialogue, as well as test out an “original gameplay mechanic where you will be able to deduct and reenact the scene of a crime and put your theories to the test.” In the last few weeks, the studio has been posting reminders and spreading the word in preparation for the game’s release. Below you can watch the launch trailer for the game, posted earlier this month.
