Details and Set Pictures of the Monster Hunter Movie

A Monster Hunter movie was announced to be in production and now an interview with the director and set images may give us a glimpse into what the movie will entail. From both the interview and the pictures it seems that original monsters from the series will be included while the story will have a more modern twist. Check out two set pictures from actress Milla Jovovich’s Instagram:

As shown above, the protagonists are military personnel in the close-to-present day. It’s not hard to surmise that the beginning of the Monster Hunter movie will not be following any traditional start to the games. Milla Jovovich plays Captain Natalie Artemis, who is seen leaning on a military vehicle with other soldiers. Modern military jeeps or tanks have never appeared in the world of Monster Hunter before, which has worried fans in the comments. But, another post by Jovovich shows her in different attire and brandishing one of the famous slingers from the series.

In an interview with /Film, director Paul W.S. Anderson gave even more details that should at least reassure dedicated fans. Anderson describes the monsters that will be in the movie, “Listen, I don’t need to create any new monsters. There’s such a vast array of amazing creatures over the years. We’re leaning quite heavily on the favorite creatures from Monster Hunter World which is the latest game.” He goes on to say that some “fabulous monsters” and “imagery” from the earlier games will also be referenced. Many aspects of the new movie will be recognized to be from the newest title, but will also “callback to some of the favorite moments and creatures from some of the earlier games.”

Anderson has been aware of the game for about ten years and he has spent time in Japan. While there he was able to see the unique imagery of Monster Hunter. He went on to begin talks of starting progress on a movie with Capcom nine years ago. Production for the movie got underway this past September and the exact release date has yet to be announced.
