Destiny Releases Weapon Tuning Patch in Preparation for Rise of Iron

On Thursday, Bungie released comprehensive update to weapon tuning for Destiny in preparation for its new expansion, Rise of Iron. In Patch 2.4.0, Bungie has revised several existing weapons, but also created new ones in order to fill gaps in gameplay. They claim that these changes will “go hand in hand with the weapon ecosystem of Rise of Iron.”

Seven Exotic weapons were changed. The Fabian Strategy will now automatically load a portion of the magazine on kill, with extended base range and stability. Thorn was brought back, but had its base range reduced by a quarter. The Universal Remote exotic shotgun has caused players a lot of headaches over its lifetime. To curb this, its Exotic Perk range was reduced by 75%, but given an increased rate of fire to compensate. Dreg’s Promise got a basic increase of damage and magazine. Touch of Malice self inflicted damage will now remove Blessing of Light, which used to blunt a lot of the drawbacks of the weapon. A versatile weapon, Boolean Gemini has given another feature in the intrinsic perk High Caliber Rounds. Finally, No Time to Explain has been given the intrinsic perk Headseeker.

In addition to these changes, Sniper Rifles were given blanket changes of reduced damage on mid-high impact, as well as no longer able to reliably kill high armor guardians in super. Auto Rifles had their maximum magazine size for high rate-of-fire families reduced, but given a damage buff to compensate.

Several perks were also modified after several months of player feedback. Bungie has decided to reduce the effectiveness of Unflinching, which “otherwise would have negated the aforementioned sniper flinch changes without tradeoff.” In addition, classic magazine perks now give additional range bonuses.

There’s a long list of changes in this patch, so be sure to check out this link in order to read the full patch notes. The patch will only be on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Rise of Iron will be released on September 20th.
