Deltarune to be Available for Full Purchase Upon Completion of Chapter 4

Fans of Toby Fox’s critically acclaimed games Undertale and its spiritual successor Deltarune were greeted with some fantastic news this Halloween, as the prodigious developer and composer recently released a charming newsletter (as well as an accompanying interview with the development team) updating fans on the status of the aforementioned Deltarune’s development progress for Chapter 3 as well as announcing that the game will be available for purchase as soon as Chapter 4 is complete.

My original plan was to release Chapter 3, 4, and 5 together. However, the finish line of Chapter 5 is still pretty far off… and I don’t think anybody really wants to wait that long to release anything. Especially me. So, new strategy: No more waiting for Chapter 5. Instead, we are going to focus on putting DELTARUNE out for purchase once we finish Chapter 4. That should make everything a bit more reasonable!

As Toby explains, his original strategy was to release the game for purchase once the entire thing was finished, but this new strategy of releasing the game once Chapter 4 is finished will probably be agreeable to most of his fans. The Deltarune community loves to speculate, after all, and the space between the game’s release and the game’s ending will almost certainly provide the fanbase with plenty of material to theorize on before the game’s full ending.

As the interview and the newsletter say, Chapter 3 should be well on its way soon enough and much of the development on Chapter 4 has apparently been completed, with many of the cutscenes and enemy work done though there is no concrete release date for either. But you don’t have to wait for Chapter 4 or even the Chapter 3 release to experience Deltarune for yourself, as you can download and play the first two chapters right here for free on PC and Mac, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4.

Derek Lairmore: I've been playing video games and writing my entire life, so naturally I decided to combine the two passions. I love video games and video game culture, as far back as I can remember I've not only played them, I've actively participated in their communities. I hope my history in this hobby and my enthusiasm for writing helps me convey news to you accurately and succinctly.
