Today, Arkane Lyon, the developers behind the new game, Deathloop has announced that the game has been delayed to Q2 2021. It was originally slated to launch later this year as a limited-time exclusive for PlayStation 5. Like most things in the gaming world going on right now, the developers cite the challenges of working from home due to COVID-19 is the main reason why the game is delayed. “Our ambition for DEATHLOOP is to deliver a signature Arkane game that takes you to never-before-seen places in a stylish new world. At the same time, the health and safety of everyone at Arkane Lyon remains our top priority. As we’ve adjusted to work from home, we found that delivering this new and exciting experience, at the polish and quality level that defines both an Arkane game and a true next-gen experience, is taking longer than normal.”
Deathloop has players take on the role of Colt as he tries to eliminate 8 key targets on the mysterious island of Blackreef in order to break timeloop that is trapping the island in a endless timeloop. Standing in the way of his goal are all of the island’s inhabitants and rival assassin Julianna who is always after Colt. Players can play the game by themselves and have Julianna controlled by AI or they can play the game in multiplayer where the other player takes control of Julianna. Earlier this month during QuakeCon at Home, Arkane Lyon had a developer update presentation that went into more about the characters, world, and gameplay of Deathloop.
Deathloop is not the only big next-gen game that has been delayed. Last week, 343 Industries and Microsoft revealed that Halo Infinite has also been delayed to 2021. Like Arkane Lyon, 343 Industries also cited that challenges from COVID-19 and working from home are one of the reasons for the delay.
