Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster’s Removal of Raunchy Elements Causes Controversy

Remakes and remasters are, by their very nature, a divisive topic in any form of media but especially in video games recently. There has been a bit of a trend in video games to remake games that may or may not even need them, and a playerbase of disgruntled fans who are quickly noticing that the creativity of the industry may not exactly be at an all time high if they are just recycling old ideas but worse. Chief among these offenders is Capcom, who have been remaking games left and right out of their Resident Evil series with varying degrees of success, but Capcom saw the gold these remakes printed and decided to expand a bit outward with a remaster (though it seems to be teetering on the edge of a full fledge remake) to cult classic Dead Rising. Only, this remaster is looking to have some corners cut a bit.

The long and short of it is, the Dead Rising remaster is going to get rid of the “Erotic!” photos that were in the original game. These shots, which were taken by catching photos of the female characters (or even zombies) in vaguely compromising positions for bonus points. On one hand, many are saying that this feature was creepy to begin with and that its removal is a good thing, and on the other, people are saying that this was a funny and harmless feature that contributed to Dead Rising’s unique charm.

Whichever side of the road you fall on though, you do have to acknowledge the odd standards the game is holding for itself. Dead Rising was an M rated game and was filled with comical levels of slapstick blood and gore, something that the remaster hasn’t shied away from in the least as opposed to its more raunchy elements. Undoubtedly, these changes, which are considered an outright removal of content in a remaster, are going to be the subject of scrutiny as the remaster approaches.

I hope my history in this hobby and my enthusiasm for writing helps me convey news to you accurately and succinctly.
