Capcom’s Dead Rising 4 breaks its Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusivity when a special PlayStation 4 port launches in December, including a new mode that reinvents the game’s story nearly a year after the original release.
Launching Dec. 5, Dead Rising 4: Frank’s Big Package features the new Capcom Heroes mode and bundles all the downloadable and bonus content from the past year together. In the new mode, Dead Rising‘s lead character, Frank West, fights his way through another zombie outbreak, but with a Capcom-themed fashion sense.
West’s outfits in the mode grant him special abilities inspired by other Capcom characters that are not available during the game otherwise. These outfits include looks based off Street Fighter‘s Cammy, Ghost Trick‘s Sissel and X from the Mega Man series.
The zombie beat-em-up series has referenced other Capcom games in the past, with a Mega Man outfit, complete with blaster, as an unlockable in the original and a Protoman costume in Dead Rising 2: Off the Record. Even in Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars for the Nintendo Wii, West wears a Mega Man suit during a hyper combo.
Unlike its immediate predecessors, Dead Rising 4 was not as well received due to a lack of real difficulty options and simplifying some features. The game was noted for continuing the series’ half serious, somewhat humorous tone, which fans still debate if the writing hinders Dead Rising‘s full potential as a survival horror game.
The port’s included content shows how lightly the game takes itself. Following the plot’s Christmas-themed antics, some of the additional content includes holiday gear like an ugly sweater and a crossbow that fires candy canes. All of the game’s DLC can be found below:
