Dead Island 2 Has Sold Over 1 Million Units in Three Days

Recently, Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios, the studios behind Dead Island 2, gave a press release that announced that Dead Island 2 has sold over 1 million units in just 72 hours according to IGN. This announcement also came with statistics provided by gamespress that revealed numbers such as total hours played, total zombies killed, and more.

Dead Island 2 in numbers: More than 1 million – copies of Dead Island 2 sold in first weekend, 11 million – total hours played, 28 million – total number of player deaths (over twice the population of Los Angeles), 45 million – zombies sliced in half, 756 million – zombie limbs hacked off1.1 billion – total number of zombies slayed

The Epic Games Store gives an overview of what the game has in store for fans in just a couple sentences, stating:

A deadly virus is spreading across Los Angeles, turning inhabitants into zombies. Bitten, infected, but more than just immune, uncover the truth behind the outbreak and discover who -or what- you are.

As partially told by the overview, Dead Island 2 is a humorous zombie-killing game where the goal is to kill hordes of zombies while trying to figure out who/what you are. The game also definitely earns its M rating, as the game guarantees that zombies can be killed in an explosion of blood and gore that is fitting for the genre.

This is the sequel to the original Dead Island, which came out in September of 2011 according to wcctech. The original game in the series had sold 5 million copies by 2013, though there has been little data to give updates on those numbers since.

IGN lists a total of nine Dead Island games, of which, seven of them are spin-offs. Considering it has been over a decade since fans have gotten their hands on a mainline Dead Island game, the swelling of support for the game makes sense. This is even more interesting considering that the last game to come out in the series (spin-offs included) was all the way back in 2018.

Dead Island 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and is available now for purchase on the Epic Games Store for $59.99.
