Dead by Daylight Mobile is a free-to-play adaptation of Behavior Interactive’s asymmetrical (players take on multiple roles) multiplayer horror game, Dead by Daylight. The game has received continuous updates and general improvements since its initial release to mobile on April 16, 2020, nearly five years ago. Behavior Interactive collaborated with NetEase Games when a major update occurred in March 2023, implementing new game modes, improved graphics, leaderboards, battle pass system, and more. Dead by Daylight Mobile has fostered a loyal player base since its release, surpassing 1 million downloads within its first 48 hours on app stores, and reaching 25 million downloads by May 2022.
Unfortunately for avid players, NetEase Games recently revealed their plans to shut down Dead by Daylight Mobile next spring. Although this news has come as a shock to many, some fans predicted the shutdown when the process began in late October. The game’s updates halted, despite having formerly been implemented on a fairly consistent basis. Players began speculating when they noticed doors being closed on the Content Creator program, and suspicions were confirmed for many when Q&A posts about the game’s future were deleted from the official website.
The bad news was revealed on December 17 in a chain of posts via the game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. They state that Dead by Daylight Mobile is officially set to leave app stores on January 16, 2025, and assures players that “the team at NetEase Games is deeply saddened” by the process. The posts confirm that Behavior Interactive will continue to run Dead by Daylight on PC and console. NetEase encourages players to transition to these versions of the game by providing them with a “Welcome Package” full of rewards based on the amount of money spent and experience earned in Dead by Daylight Mobile.
Dead by Daylight Mobile will leave stores on January 16, but players with the game can play until March 20, when it officially shuts down and the game’s servers will no longer be available. To claim the Welcome Package, players will need a Behavior Account and a copy of Dead by Daylight on any platform aside from mobile, played at least once. After those bases are covered, they should log into Dead by Daylight Mobile and follow a link to the Welcome Package landing page, where they will sign into their account, select the platform they play on, and then receive their rewards.
