Dark Survival Game This War of Mine Announces New Story DLC “Fading Embers”

Sometimes there are games that hurt to play. Not physically, but on an emotional level. And while they may be hard to push through and they might change you as a person, they tell a story of some type of magnitude that needs to be told. This is where 11 bit studios comes in with their heart-wrenching and beautiful story of This War of Mine.

This War of Mine first started up back in 2014, but it wasn’t until 2017 that it introduced the new narrative of the DLC “Stories”, which were non-linear to the main game. These “Stories” DLC told of different protagonists each with their own type of adversary world, but all having to do with war. And each of these stories are based on real-life events. And the real-life consequences of making the wrong or right choice. It grabbed the attention of many and has reviewed high praise for its story, its characters, and its grim reminder of battles and blood.

But recently, 11 bit studios, announced the continuation of their “Stories” DLC, with Fading Embers, bringing in some new content and new outcomes:

In the new chapter players take on the role of Anja, who’s living in the middle of a warzone and has to make one of the toughest decisions ever: the life of one man, or the continuation of a legacy. The lead artist behind Fading Embers, Tomasz Kisilewicz, came forward with the upcoming set-up for the new story. And how choices and multiple endings are going to be a massive part of the story and the outcome of it:

The latest This War of Mine story focuses on choices that can lead to multiple endings. These branches were necessary to help address the overarching question of what has the bigger value — things made by men that outlast life or the life of a man itself. When you think about it, humans stand against the destructive power of war not only to save themselves but also to save what entire generations have created.

Fading Embers will be available for PC and Mac on August 6 for $3.99 USD or in the Season Pass if players already own it. It is still unsure on whether or not this chapter will be heading to the mobile version of this game.

EDIT: After speaking with the developers, there is currently no process into adding the upcoming DLC’s to mobile devices, but implies that they do want to do. While there is no time or date on when it might happen, you can follow them on their Twitter to keep up with any announcements they might have for the mobile version of This War of Mine.
