Over the years, live-streaming has taken the internet by storm. Seemingly everyone is joining in on it, many with the goal of becoming the next internet sensation. Those with that goal are often times willing to do anything to get more followers and fame, even if it isn’t the best idea.
Dark Stream explores this phenomenon. Developer RedDeer.Games released a trailer for their new game, showcasing the extremes a streamer will go to for their audience.
In Dark Stream, players will play as a “disgraced” creator who is desperate for views and fans, risking his safety and life for his chat. Streaming from a house rumored to be haunted, the content creator explores his surroundings to uncover the gruesome past of the home. All the while, he is being chased by paranormal beings that reside in the house who respond to each action he takes. The only reliable tools at the streamer’s disposal will be the laptop he is streaming from, a flickering flashlight, and a chat that will not stay quiet.
The ghosts of the house seem as though they were just waiting for a moment like this, fueled by the fact they have an audience now. As players investigate what happened in the house, they are putting themselves at risk with each decision they make: the right moves will help solve the mystery, but the wrong ones will agitate the ghosts and create a hostile environment. A real time chat will react to each event, their responses being mixed depending on what happens and how pleased they are.
Dark Stream seems to mix games that already exist, the paranormal investigating portion favoring Phasmophobia, while handling the laptop and the issues that come with streaming looking similar to mechanics used in several games, the Five Nights At Freddy’s franchise being the first that comes to mind. This mixture along with the real life inspiration of streaming creates a unique experience with Dark Stream that looks as though to be terrifyingly fun.
