Last week, CD Projekt Red announced that they would be sharing new gameplay for Cyberpunk 2077 that had only been shown behind closed doors to members of the press. Today, a new deep-dive video was released for the game highlighting a new location with new gameplay.
The footage that has been released is an edited version of the footage that was shown off at Gamescom and it is the same footage that MXDWN got to see at E3. The 15-minute gameplay demonstration is a mission that takes place in Pacifica, one of six unique districts in Night City. What was suppose to be a tourist destination has turned into a place overrun by a gang war. The mission has V helping out a gang called The Voodoo Boys who are the most skilled at using the Net. They task V with infiltrating a location accompanied by a rival gang, The Animals. The Animals value might above all else and primarily wear melee combat implants. They also have tech that doesn’t seem to fit how The Animals operate so The Voodoo Boys send V in to investigate.
One of the many things that was showcased in the deep-dive was how players start the game and how they create their characters. Everything starts off with picking a life path which unlocks special options in important story moments. Then, players can customize their characters however they see fit. CD Projekt Red recently announced that they were taking away the gender option in character customization. CD Projekt Red wanted to give players the freedom to make their own character and play the way they want. Players also distribute attribute points however they see fit as there is no class system in the game. Instead, players can choose or create a playstyle.
CD Projekt Red showcased two playstyles, Solo and Netrunner. A Solo gameplay style is all about the direct approach, using guns and might. In this style, players can tear off the guns of a turret and use it for themselves and it allows players to force open doors. Melee combat cyber ware can be used using this Solo style. The Netrunner playstyle is more about sneaking, hacking and manipulating everything at your disposal. You can get around obstacles such as cameras by hacking them and using them or turning them off or you could hack an enemy to make them shoot themselves or pull the pin on a grenade.
CD Projekt Red also talked about many different aspects of the game, giving more insight into the gameplay and mechanics of Cyberpunk 2077. One of the main things that they stressed was the idea of giving freedom to the players in terms of gameplay and story.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases on April 16, 2020, for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and for Stadia sometime in the same year.
