Control Has Now Sold More Than 3 Million Copies Worldwide

One of the most critically acclaimed titles in recent memory has reached a new milestone. Remedy Entertainment’s Control has now sold more than 3 million units worldwide, and has brought in an additional revenue of €92 million, or approximately $98.1 million. The announcement was made via a financial report for Digital Bros, who is the overarching parent company of publisher 505 Games, the main distributor of Control. Considering that the title originally launched in 2019, and with a fairly paltry budget of under €30 million, or $32 million, this is easily a massive financial success for all parties involved.

On top of this amazing achievement, Digital Bros also reaffirmed the development of Control 2, which was officially announced in November 2022. When going to the 13th page on the financial report, it states that the development budget for Control 2 will have a significantly higher budget thanks to the revenue of the first entry as well as an agreement between 505 Games and Remedy Entertainment. Now the title will have a budget of roughly €50 million, or $53.3 million. That’s a €20 million increase for the studio on Control 2, a major uptick in the budgetary department.

As we mentioned earlier, Control was one of 2019’s most critically acclaimed titles. It went on to be nominated for several Game of the Year awards, including Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019. It ended up taking home the award for Best Art Direction while Sekiro: Shadows Sie Twice won the big one, but that didn’t stop the juggernaut that Remedy had created, adding yet another intricate and ambitious single-player experience to their ever-growing library. As we continue into 2023, we’re hoping to hear some more information on that aforementioned sequel, on top of the other projects that Remedy is currently working on.
