Indie developer Error Thing has already made their presence known with their debut title Deperson. Between the nominations and awards they have won in a small timeframe for their beautiful visuals, they also have cultivated a community that are just as talented as they are. Not only is this psychological horror rich in story, but in their loyal fanbase, and for good reason.
Deperson is about main protagonist Aaron who wakes up in the strange nation of Indrija, where obedience is survival. With no memory of how he got here, he comes to learn Indrija runs on surveillance and fear, keeping its inhabitants and now Aaron in line out of pure fear and the pressure to confront ones self.
Unfortunately for Aaron, he is afraid of everything, even himself. Being forced to face the darkness within him is a challenging task, and the way the nation warps the line between reality and illusion doesn’t do him any favors. There is much to fear here, but the biggest factors are a tie between his past and those who stand beside him now. Players have the choice to “build or break him”, he can become stronger, cruler, or even more broken than he arrived with the choices you make for him. “Your decisions will not only shape Aaron’s fate, but the fate of everyone drawn into his journey.”
Also up to players is where Aaron’s trust will be placed. Should Aaron trust anyone here, who would it be? The all watchful eye, the loyal followers of Indrija, the deformed creatures waiting for their moment to strike, or the smiling faces who seem like old friends?
Every decision matters here, each choice made will leave someone or something behind for all involved. Delving into “a journey through fear, identity, and the horrifying truths hidden within Aaron’s past and the dystopian nation surrounding him”, complicated decisions will create multiple possible endings and branching paths. However you decide to play the game, choose wisely, Deperson is not forgving, and Aaron’s faith is in your hands.
Deperson is available to wishlist on Steam now and is expected to release this year.
