Command and Conquer is Getting a Remaster Collection on June 5th

Petroglyph Studios and Electronic Arts have been working to revitalize the Command and Conquer name. Petroglyph Studios started out with revealing the full-motion video cutscenes and a micro-documentary on the recreation of the Command and Conquer games. Now, Petroglyph Studios revealed the launch date after teasing possible remasters for the classic Command and Conquer series.

The remasters will be coming in a bundle that includes a remaster of Westwood Studio’s very first Command and Conquer along with Command and Conquer: Red Alert, the alternative history spin-off game, along with their expansions. The Command and Conquer Remastered Collection will be hitting Steam and Origin on June 5th. The remaster will give the 25-year-old game new textures that support 4k resolution with new audio. Command and Conquer Remastered Collection will have a remastered soundtrack composed by Frank Klepacki, who composed the soundtrack for the first game with Westwood Studios.

Petroglyph Studios is stated that the core mechanics of the Command and Conquer games will be untouched but the user interface will be heavily updated along with the control scheme. The games will come with a map editor feature as well. lead producer Jim Vessella demonstrated some features that were added at the community’s request. One such feature was a sidebar interface which will add extra tabs and hotkey bindings to minimize scrolling through menus. “This community insight gave us the validation to make that decision with confidence, which we then further refined with the community council throughout the course of development,” Vessella said.

Vessella continued commenting that community feedback did leave to design clashes as Petroglyph Studios is trying to avoid breaking the nostalgia factor while making improvements to the game. Some new feature such as unit queuing, will have a toggle option for players to decide how they like the game. Petroglyph Studios is considering supporting mods but they are yet to make the official decisions, though they claim the map editor will allow custom single-player campaigns and multiplayer maps to be shared among the community.

Griffin Gilman: Gaming may very well be half of my personality, so it is only natural that I write about them. The best genre is RPGs, while the best game is Nier Automata. That's not an opinion but a matter of facts.
