Fans of Dungeons & Dragons may be happy to hear that more D&D video games are being planned right now. In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, the president of Wizards Of The Coast Chris Cocks revealed that seven or eight games are currently being planned for release in the next few years. Cocks explains that he wants each game to follow a specific perspective due to the impossibility of creating a true D&D video game. “We want each game to have a point of view, and to really keep on just a couple of things and do it really, really well.” He also explains that he doesn’t want each of the games to “try to do the same thing and try to do everything all at once.”
Cocks also explains in the interview that not every game will be the same, as some games will have unique features not found in other games. In the interview, he states: “And we’re going to do it in a variety of genres… And in future games we will explore different areas, whether it’s grand strategy and combat at army level scale, to really intimate character portrayal.” Chris Cocks also revealed that all of the games will feature both single player and co-op modes, stating: “We will have single player games; we think they’re important. There will be single player modes in all of our games, but we always think that our co-operative perspective, that forming a party with your friends and doing great things together — the party is bigger than individual components — will always be an important part of our secret sauce.” Little more is known about the games at this time, but more information will likely be revealed at a later date.
During the 2019 Game Awards back on the 12th, Dark Alliance was revealed in a World Premiere. The game will feature a mixture of elements from hack-and-slash and dungeon crawler games. The game will also be playable either online or in co-op allowing up to four people to work together. Little more is known about Dark Alliance at this time, but the game will be released for consoles and PC in 2020.
