While the FIFA World Cup may have ended, the Esports World Cup is still in full swing. Brackets across twenty four different games have been scheduled through August 23, 2026. Last week, 100 Thieves took the crown in the Valorant championship against NRG. This past week, four other games have wrapped up, leaving just nineteen games left in this World Cup. Listed below is a brief recap of each of the four championship matches, in chronological order.
Free Fire
Friday, July 17th’s Free Fire championship features a record breaking win from South America’s LYON. Not only did they defeat eleven teams in seven finals matches, LYON also managed to score “thirty three eliminations and a Booyah,” breaking a 2024 record of “twenty eight eliminations and a Booyah.” LYON’s players took home a total of $300,000 USD, and have qualified for the Free Fire Global Finals later this year.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (Womens’ International)
Also on July 17, Team Vitality faced Natus Vincere in the championship round, winning a “4-2 victory across a best-of-seven” and taking home $150,000 USD. This is not Team Vitality’s first win in the Women’s International league, nor is it their first Esports World Cup title. The team has won four titles in the league before, along with the 2025 Esports World Cup Mobile Legends: Bang Bang title. Team Vitality is reportedly “one of the most successful and decorated teams in women’s MLBB,” according to the Esports World Cup website.
League of Legends
Second, on Saturday, July 18, South Korea’s Dplus KIA made history during the League of Legends Grand Final (championship match) with their first ever Esports World Cup title. The team played against another reported underdog, France’s Karmine Corp, earning a final 3-0 score and $600,000 USD. Reportedly, Dplus KIA’s “dominance peaked in Game 3, where [they] amassed a 10,000-gold lead just 24 minutes in, effectively putting the series out of reach.” The Riot Games portion of the 2026 Esports World Cup is almost over, as the publisher only has one title left in the cup that will begin playing brackets tomorrow, July 21.
Dota 2
On July 19, “PVISION defeated BB Team in a thrilling four-game series to claim the Dota 2 [title] at [the] Esports World Cup 2026 championship.” PVISION earned $750,000 USD for their hard fought victory, with the finale match lasting over an hour. Like most teams competing in the Esports World Cup, neither PVISION or BB Team represent a country entirely. PVISION’s six players are from Ukraine, Russia, and Estonia, while BB Team’s roster consists of players rom Russia and Moldova.
