CD Projekt Red is Not Done With The Witcher Series

The Witcher franchise will go down as one of the best Role-Playing games of all time.  CD Projekt Red clearly has a passion for the series, as was evident in their games which were critically acclaimed, and they continue their affection for gaming development with new projects on the horizon.  However, just because they’ve begun to create new games, doesn’t mean they’re letting go of their monster slaying series just yet.

Earlier this week, in an interview with Bankier.pl (a Polish financial website, sourced by VG247.com) CD Projetk Red CEO, Adam Kiciński, hinted that their might be another Witcher game in the works.  However, if this comes to pass, the title won’t be called The Witcher 4, as he states:

The first three Witchers were by definition a trilogy, so we simply could not name the next game The Witcher 4. This does not mean, of course, that we will leave the world of The Witcher, created by us for over a dozen years. The Witcher is one of two franchises on which to build in the future activities of the company. Today, unfortunately, I can not reveal anything more.

To see another Witcher game would be interesting, as the three original titles were focused on Geralt of Rivia’s story and the characters around him, therefore it would be very hard to imagine the series without their stalwarts.  Regardless, if CD Projekt Red decided to fully commit to making the title, you won’t see many complaints from fans.  In addition, the company already has their hands full, with the development of Cyberpunk 2077which is being worked on by approximately 350 developers, and according to Kiciński is “the largest in the history of the studio so far.”

Still, it’s good that the company still holds The Witcher series in such high regards, and with over 33 million copies sold worldwide, it’s easy to see why they don’t want to stop it.  It will probably be a long time before we actually hear any more news regarding a new Witcher game, but the prospect is exciting to say the least.
