CD Projekt Red Announces Cyberpunk 2077 Will Be Expanded in 2023

Recently, CD Projekt Red tweeted the production plans for the remainder of 2022. Within the tweet, CD Projekt Red promises to further support Cyberpunk 2077, due to the many bugs in the game, and to begin development for the game’s first expansion update. Furthermore, the expansion development might already be in place because Cyberpunk 2077‘s Twitter account quote-tweeted CD Projekt Red’s tweet with, “As it was mentioned in @CDPROJEKTRED_IR financial call moments ago, Cyberpunk 2077‘s upcoming expansion will arrive in 2023. Please stay tuned for more details coming later this year.” Unsurprisingly, fans are irritated because this is yet another delay for Cyberpunk 2077, only receiving the first expansion update 2 years after launch.

Along with the announcement, CD Projekt Red outlined development details for the new, upcoming The Witcher game and updates for published The Witcher games as well. Currently, all that is known about the new The Witcher title is that it will be developed on Epic Games’ new Unreal Engine 5, and CD Projekt Red promises there will be no infamous work crunch for this game. As for the other The Witcher games, development for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen version has been delayed indefinitely and brought back in-house, a spin-off to GWENT: The Witcher Card Game will be launched in 2022, and support will be furthered for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game and mobile game The Witcher: Monster Slayer.

Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher are not the only games in development because CD Projekt Red also announced that some time in 2022 will be used for development of other unannounced games. Within the announcement tweet, CD Projekt Red stated that The Molasses Flood is going to begin development of an unannounced game based on one of CD Projekt Red’s franchises. Additionally, conceptual and research work will also be done for other unannounced projects in 2022. All in all, it seems CD Projekt Red is trying to shake off the rocky last 2 years with a good 2022.
