Capcom Share Prices Reach All-Time High After Record-Breaking Profits in the 2022-2023 Fiscal Year

Over the last fiscal year, Capcom has been doing very well for itself, breaking its record for the most games sold in a business year according to Video Games Chronicle. In fact, it not only beat its previous record, it destroyed it, selling almost 10 million more games during the twelve-month period from March 2022 through March 2023.

What is interesting about this data is that most of these sales are from older games. While the Resident Evil 4 remake and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak sold approximately 9 million units combined (with those being Capcom’s most recent games), titles in series such as Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Devil May Cry sold a collective 29.3 million units, which beat the previous year by over 5 million units in that category.

Another point of note is that most of those sales were digital. It seems as though almost 90% of game sales during the 2022-2023 fiscal year was sold digitally.

These numbers have been reflected in Capcom’s stock prices, which have reached an all-time high at $38.97. These numbers are only set to increase further with the upcoming Street Fighter 6 coming out on June 2nd of this year.

The previous series record for copies sold is held by Street Fighter V, which sold 7 million copies. In another Video Games Chronicle article, the president of Capcom was asked about the number of sales they hope the game will make in which he responded:

Street Fighter V has already sold over 7 million copies, so if we can make use of our digital sales experience, we should be able to aim for 10 million copies with the next game.

With Street Fighter 6 around the corner, if it can reach the numbers Capcom hopes it will, we might see a similar article to this one showing up around the same time next year, as Capcom continues its sixth year of record-breaking growth.
