Capcom Releases New Resident Evil VII Biohazard Trailer And Story Details

As part of the GamesCom 2016 festivities, Capcom released a new trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil VII Biohazard.

Titled “The Lantern”, the trailer shows a clearly terrified woman running from a woman holding a lantern. While the trailer gives us a lengthy look at the game in action it also shows off some new mechanics to the series such as hiding. The slow speed chase ends with the mysterious woman jump scaring our camerawoman to death. It didn’t reveal many details, but Kellen Haney, Capcom’s Social Media Specialist, helpfully elaborated on the PlayStation Blog.

According to Haney, the game takes place in Dulvey, Louisiana, and the locals haven’t heard from Jack or Marguerite Baker in a while. Unfortunately for the players, we know where they’ve been. In the demo released at E3, players were introduced to the “Sewer Gators”, the group we saw in the found footage segments, and at the end of the demo the player character “met” the missing Jack Baker. At the end of the demo, the tagline “Meet the Family” was shown, a tagline that wasn’t an empty promise as the lantern wielding woman in the trailer was Marguerite.

Haney said that like the demo, this video segment is meant to set up the game and will appear in the final version on a tape labeled “Mia”.  Haney also made a point in saying that the videotape graphical effects aren’t indicative of the entire game and only appear in the videotape segments.

As for the woman holding the camera and what Marguerite wants with her Haney only said that players will have to wait until the game comes out on January 27th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. As a special treat for PSVR owners Capcom announced at E3 that game will be playable on the VR rig as well.
