The Resident Evil franchise has hit a new sales milestone. According to Capcom, the latest entry in the franchise, Resident Evil 4 has sold over 7 million units globally. This record has pushed the franchise’s overall sales to a record 154 million units since its release in 1996. In a previous report in December 2023, Resident Evil 4’s sales record sitting at 6.48 million units sold.
“The Resident Evil franchise features survival horror games in which players utilize a variety of weapons and other items to escape terrifying situations. Cumulative sales of the games in the series now exceed 154 million units* since the first title debuted in 1996. Now, more than 28 years later, continuous support from the passionate fan base across the globe makes it Capcom’s flagship game series.” wrote Capcom.
Following the success of the previous remakes, Resident Evil 4 released to wide acclaim from the gaming community and Resident Evil fans. Players take up the role of Leon Kennedy, now a federal agent, as he searches for the missing president’s daughter in the hills of Spain.
According to the press release, this increase in sales was thanks to the additional DLC content released for the game. Additionally, the release of Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition in early February also contributes to its sales.
Resident Evil 4 is currently available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Fans can also play the game on the PlayStation VR 2 as well as Mac and the iPhone 15 Pro.
