Call of Duty: Ghosts Bringing Invasion DLC to Playstation, PC

Call of Duty: Ghosts developer Infinity Ward announced that the third DLC package for Ghosts, entitled Invasion, will be released on July 3, 2014 for Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and Windows PC version of the game. Invasion, which launched on June 3 for Xbox 360 and Xbox One Call of Duty players, includes four new multiplayer maps and the third installment in the game’s four player cooperative campaign, Extinction.

Invasion brings a selection of four new maps for use in online Call of Duty: Ghosts competitive matches. The first among these is Pharaoh, an ancient Egyptian archeological dig site which gives players the ability to gain the “Blessing of Anubis,” which grants access to all combat perks for four lives, and contains a secret room accessible by using torches scattered throughout the map. Second is Departed, a rural Mexican village decorated for Day of the Dead celebrations where players can become a “Death Mariachi” who turns players they kill into temporary allies by completing a unique objective during combat. Third is Mutiny, a remote island harboring an abandoned pirate ship. Completing Mutiny’s unique Field Order objective grants the player temporary ghost pirates who will help them in combat. The final map added in Invasion is Favela, modeled after a Brazilian slum. This map, which made its first appearance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, features numerous buildings and narrow alleyways for players to fight in.

The Invasion DLC package also introduces the third chapter of Ghosts’ cooperative campaign mode, Extinction. In this chapter, known as Awakening, players “[descend] into the perilous depths of an alien underworld,” using a number of new, high-tech weapons to fight off Cryptids, ancient life forms predating the dinosaurs who were unearthed by archeologists. Awakening focuses on the search for the Ark, a vessel in which the Cryptids hid until they were unearthed, and the Cortex contained therein, which is “key to unlocking the secrets of the Ancestors’ psychic powers.” Awakening also introduces three new types of Cryptid enemies: flying gargoyles, swarms of exploding bombers, and giant mammoths.

Invasion is currently available for Xbox 360 and Xbox One as a standalone download for $19.95 or as part of the Call of Duty: Ghosts season pass, a $49.99 package that includes the three current DLC packs for Ghosts as well as access to the fourth and final pack planned, Nemesis, when it launches. Prices for the Playstation and PC versions of the DLC, which will be released on July 3, are not yet set, although they will presumably be similar to the cost of the Xbox packages.
