Bungie Details How Armor 2.0 Works In Destiny 2

Last week, Polygon had an interview with Bungie that broke down how the new finishing moves work for Destiny 2. Now, Polygon has released another interview detailing how Armor 2.0 will work for the upcoming expansion, Shadowkeep. Both were revealed during Bungie’s recent ViDoc: Out of the Shadows.

The main focus of Armor 2.0 is separating the gameplay and aesthetics of armor. Franchise director Luke Smith said that players will have ways to earn and find mods to socket into armor pieces. They will also be able to get upgraded if players want to invest in their gear. “Armor 2.0 is going to have the energy system. You power up the armor to increase its capacity, which lets you equip more mods.”

There are two core pillars for the Armor 2.0 system. One is mods, the other is stats which will be doubled when Shadowkeep releases this fall. Some of the new stats include Intellect, Discipline, and Strength which was in Destiny. Bungie is also widening the range of Mobility, Recovery, and Reslilence, but said that they will go into more details about that at a later date. Similar to the first game, these stats will reduce the cooldown of a Guardian’s super, grenade, and melee abilities.

Stats will incentivize players to pick up better versions of their favorite armor pieces and use mods that will allow them to customize their playstyle. Luke Smith’s example: “I like hand cannons, and I might put two hand cannon reloader mods on my gloves that stack and work together.” Bungie also said that while they don’t know how many new mods or how powerful they’ll be, “We’re going to introduce new mods into the pool for you to chase,” said Smith.

In addition to Armor 2.0 overhaul, players will be able to further customize the look of their armor with new Eververse armor pieces as ornaments which was announced when Bungie detailed the changes to Eververse.
