The popular browser, and later mobile game, Bit Heroes, has been sold by the developer Juppiomenz to Kongregate, their partner and publisher for an undisclosed sum. According to post by the studio on the Kongregate website, and later shared in Tweet, the three-person team at Juppiomenz felt it was time to hand the reigns to “another great team” at Kongregate. The post states that Kongregate has a roadmap for the game, with “MANY new features and content updates” that simply required a bigger team to facilitate.
Bit Heroes was originally released in 2016 on the Kongregate website. The game is free-to-play pixelated dungeon-crawler with a turn-based combat style and a focus on loot crafting. Players are tasked with assembling a team of former bosses and baddies to take on even stronger bosses and baddies, using loot gained from the fights to boost their team. Lather, rinse, repeat. Bit Heroes is said to capture the player’s nostalgia for classic RPGs. A Steam version, as well as a mobile version for iOS and Android, were also released in 2017.
As a long-time partner and publisher of Bit Heroes, the sale to Kongregate makes a lot of sense. With the direction of the game trending upwards towards bigger and better things, it would mean a much larger workload for the small team at Juppiomenz, one they simply could not undertake. With the sale, the Juppiomenz team is set to “help with the transition, then take a much needed vacation.” As expected, the original team expressed their thanks to their loyal fans, and are confident that Kongregate will uphold the game’s standards set over the years.
