Gamestop Working On New Retail Stores For ‘Select Markets’

GameStop, the well known video game retailer hasn’t been doing its best as of late. With the company’s stock bordering an all time low for them and the sudden switch of CEO’s not so long ago the company is currently looking for ways to reinvent itself. George Sherman the company’s current CEO stated that he is looking forward to putting the company through a large transformation. That statements leaves a lot to the imagination as to what that all entails.

However, in a new development we’ve gotten some news as to what the huge retailer has been planning to do next. Recently GameStop has announced that they have plans for new retail stores in the works. They revealed a partnership between them a “global innovation design firm,” R/GA, to create “streamlined” GameStop stores. These stores will have a “unique layout and purpose.”

They even said that these new stores will allow consumers “new ways” to try out games before they choose to buy them. There aren’t many details out but the two companies are currently at work designing and testing these new stores out. Although there is no word on specifically where these new stores are going to be tested as of yet.

Some of these new store concepts will have their own focus on what audience they want to appeal too. For example they are working on a concept store whose main focus is to sell retro games and hardware. While another will put its emphasis on competitive gaming and “home grown e-leagues.”

These stores are going to be guided to appeal to a “select market.” GameStop’s cheif executive officer Frank Hamlin said within a statement “We’re on a journey to use our vast retail footprint to provide an engaging and well-thought-out experience that enhances our consumers’ gaming interests.”
