Released in October 2022 and developed by Second Dinner, Marvel Snap has flourished in the mobile gaming sphere. Players are eased into the mechanically rich game with seamless tutorial, and from there they arrange decks of 12 cards featuring iconic marvel characters and face off against fellow players. While many mobile games are characterized by and relentlessly mocked for their predatory reliance on microtransactions, Marvel Snap allows players to progress all of its content for free. The game’s Season Passes do occasionally offer some overpowered cards too early on, at least according to Game Rant, but its model works considerably well overall.
Like many mobile games, Marvel Snap features recurring seasons that offer unique rewards. Second Dinner continues to update the game with new cards, activities, and events, many of which correspond with said seasons. The latest season of the game, War of the Nine Realms, was posted about on the game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account as it began on November 5. The post advertises its “most heavy season” yet with fire-infused demonic artwork and announces that November’s season pass card includes Surtur the fire giant.
Unfortunately, the season’s mission challenges and corresponding rewards have not functioned as intended. ComicBook recently confirmed that challenges were asking players to “play 100 4-cost cards” or “move 75 cards” which contradicted the game’s expected norm. While some season missions were overly difficult and poorly rewarded, others were suspiciously easy to complete and therefore not worthwhile. Users theorized that the requirements for various challenges were likely mismatched, and also noticed that the XP value accumulated per challenge did not make sense.
Marvel Snap players highlighted abnormal missions and shared their findings with the game’s developers, who confirmed that the season was indeed facing issues. Community Manager Griffin Bennet commented on the situation via the game’s official Discord server.
Yep, the Season Missions are not correct and we’re working on a fix. Not intended at all.
While these issues may be fixed within a few days, the errors will still affect players who spend $9.99 per month for the Marvel Snap Premium Season Pass. The game will likely see an overall decrease in active players for the month of November as the challenge-related issues make progressing through the game a genuine struggle.
For anyone interested in Second Dinner’s response to the situation, the company plans on providing updates via the Marvel Snap Discord server. The game is currently available for free on both iOS and Android devices to any potential players who wish to experience this strategic card game for themselves.
