Breath of the Wild 2 Has Been Delayed Until Spring 2023

One of the most anticipated sequels in video game history is being pushed back just a bit. Nintendo has officially announced that Breath of the Wild 2 has been officially delayed until Spring 2023, moving it one year later than the initial release time frame of 2022. The announcement came in a video on YouTube with longtime series producer and director Eiji Aonuma revealing the title’s delay. The video also shows a brand new very short clip of some gameplay, as well as a new scene.

We see Link travel around, both on the ground and in the air, through the landscape with only Aonuma giving some slight context in the background. The new scene shows Link holding what appears to be a broken Master Sword. It’s possible that the game will have Link journey to try and repair it, but for the time being, that mangled sword is the only indication of the weapon’s inclusion in the game. Aonuma also apologized for the delay. “For those of you who have been looking forward to a release this year, we apologize,” he said. “In order to make this game’s experience something special, the entire development team is continuing to work diligently on this game, so please wait a while longer.”

As we previously stated, Nintendo announced during E3 2021 that they were aiming for a 2022 release time frame for Breath of the Wild 2. While it is unfortunate that we won’t see the game’s release until 2023, the wait will more than likely be worth it. Nintendo will also potentially be revealing more information as the year progresses, which will include more gameplay footage, more context to the intriguing storyline, and perhaps something even more. The original Breath of the Wild was a massive success in 2017 and is often considered one of the greatest video games of all time. So to say that the sequel has a lot to live up to is an understatement, and Nintendo wants to make sure they’ll have it ready for us.
