Borderlands 3 Release Date May Have Been Leaked

Earlier today, the Borderlands Twitter posted tweet stating that the release date for the highly anticipated Borderlands 3 would be September 13 of this year. Now before the fan-base goes Psycho (heh), don’t forget that it is April Fool’s Day and we shouldn’t put it past Gearbox to deliver a devastating prank such as this. The tweet read, “Mayhem is Coming September 13. Pre-order now for the Gold Weapons Skin Pack!” Though the tweet has since been deleted, IGN was quick enough to snag a screencap.

Borderlands 3 was recently confirmed at PAX East and before that, fans were quick to pick apart the teaser trailer for any details concerning the game, pre-announcement. In their thorough investigation, not only was SHIFT Code for Borderlands 2 uncovered, but also secret messages in both Braille and Morse code sprinkled in the trailer. Fans did the same for the reveal trailer, which you can check out below, and believe to have found another hidden code. While no more SHIFT Codes were found, fans believe they uncovered the release date for the game plastered on some buildings. According to the theory, Borderlands 3 will release either October 1, 2019, or January 10, 2020.

Fan theories aside, it seems odd that if Gearbox was pulling an April Fool’s prank that they would almost immediately remove the post before the vast majority got a chance to see, be fooled by, get hype about, and finally remember that it was April Fool’s Day, right? Currently, there are no concrete announcements as of when the game will be released, but the end screen of the trailer says to stay tuned for more information on April 3. A release date announcement could very well be on the way, only to be erroneously posted just a few days before. The good news is, fans will only have a couple more days to wait before the next wave of Borderlands 3 news.
