Blizzard Entertainment is planning to expand the Heroes of the Storm universe. The first step the developer is taking to reveal more lore to the game will come tomorrow with the release of the Dark Nexus content. The new content will bring changes to skins, battlegrounds, and controls along with the expansion in order “to reflect the corruption that has happened as a result of the Raven Lord’s actions in summoning them.” In addition to the Dark Nexus, a new canon comic called “Rise of the Raven Lord”, which is about the Realm Lord of Ravencourt, has also been released.
Game director Alan Dabiri and creative content lead Kevin Johnson both discussed about what lies in the future in regards to the Nexus and the game’s own setting. Blizzard is looking to cover some unexplored ground and give more depth to the Nexus with this round of content. “It will give us this foundation and this canvas to really bring content into the game in a cohesive way,” Dabiri says in the video. “When we bring skin drops in, when we bring battlegrounds in, we can actually kind of tie it all together, which is a goal that we have for this year – to actually have this cohesive story that carries through the whole year.”
Although the developer is looking to increase the amount of content based around the Nexus within the game, and include content that doesn’t stem from the Blizzard universe, they emphasized that this will not take away from the current array of characters and settings within the game. Dabiri explained, “It’s not just a story thing, this is also a visual identity, this is sound, this is cinematics, and comics.” So, fans only have a short wait before they can jump into the lore of the Dark Nexus.
