The Company behind such titles as World of Warcraft and Call of Duty has hired a lobbying firm to represent the company in regards to a new Bill that’s passing through the Senate.
The Bill, or The Violent Content Research Act of 2013, was introduced following a string of violent outburst across the country. The Bill looks to delve deeper into the claim that violent video games lead to violent behaviors. This idea has been a source of ongoing conflict within the community as most players and citizens claim that the government and lobbyists are simply looking for a scapegoat or an explanation for these moments of violence.
It has been reported that there is no news as to which side of the argument Blizzard stands but based on their library it would seem that they look to defend the rights of video games to present any reality they please. However, this can’t be confirmed or denied at present but it is an interesting move for the company as the argument continues to build.
It would seem that nearly every day a new crime is blamed on the influence of video games on children and adults alike. Whether this accusation has any true grounding is yet to be seen; this is what the bill hopes to prove.
Voting on the Bill was scheduled to take place at the end of July, but no such vote has been placed as of yet.
